JOB DESCRIPTION 

REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor

STATUS: Full-Time Salaried Position

POSITION OBJECTIVE: To help lead our church in passionately lifting high the name of Jesus in worship

POSITION SUMMARY: The Worship Director is responsible for all aspects of music and technology in worship services and special gatherings (Prayer Nights, Member Meetings, etc.), recruiting and training staff and volunteers, and providing spiritual and organizational leadership for the band and tech teams.

REQUIREMENTS

The Worship Director must:

    • Have a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ pursuing a passionate, growing, personal relationship with Him
    • Demonstrate commitment to the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit exhibited in a personal character of Christlikeness
    • Become a member of Crossway Bible Church and active participant in a Small Group
    • Exhibit a congenial work attitude and foster an encouraging environment for volunteers

PHILOSOPHY OF MINISTRY

The Worship Director must be passionate about:

    • Being contemporary without compromise (Psalm 96:1, John 4:24)
    • Leading adorational, exuberant, and edifying congregational singing (Colossians 3:16)
    • Helping others exercise musical gifts with excellence to bless the church (1 Corinthians 12:7)
    • Raising up and developing other leaders who can increasingly manage scopes of ministry responsibility (Exodus 18)

NECESSARY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The Worship Director must have:

    • A strong ability to lead corporate worship, preferably with proficiency in multiple instruments
    • Passionate love for people with concern for their relationship with Jesus
    • A discipleship mindset with experience in training and equipping leaders
    • Strong communication skills, time management skills, and organizational leadership skills

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Worship Director will:

    • Work approximately 50 hours per week, primarily on-site. Hours expectations are based on more than solely the responsibilities outlined here. The main Worship Director scope of responsibilities are expected to take 25-30 hours per week, but the full-time nature of this position anticipates 10-25 hours per week of other work contributions. See “additional experience desired.”
    • Manage the leadership, coordination, and further development of volunteer band teams and tech teams
    • Manage the leadership, coordination, and further development of  the Student Ministries band 
    • Work with and direct the volunteer band leader and volunteer AV leader
    • Coach individual instrumentalists, vocalists, and AV technicians to higher levels of excellence
    • Plan weekly services and special gatherings in collaboration with the Senior Pastor and others
    • Attract, recruit, and motivate volunteers
    • Lead devotionals occasionally for church staff and band and tech teams

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

    • 5 or more years of experience in a similar role preferred
    • Skilled in leading worship both vocally and instrumentally
    • Must be elder-qualified or aiming to be (1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:6-9, 1 Peter 5:1-11)
    • Additional experience desired: videography, video editing, graphic design – or other key church/ministry/administrative abilities

CURRENT LANDSCAPE AT CROSSWAY

    • 8-year-old church plant part of the Great Commission Collective church-planting network
    • Average attendance of 500 people between two services on Sunday mornings with room to grow to 1,000 per Sunday in our newly renovated worship center
    • Currently using Allen and Heath dLive soundboard and LCD panel video screen
    • 18 volunteer band members with a team of 8 playing each Sunday
      • 6 vocalists
      • 3 acoustic guitarists
      • 3 key players
      • 2 drummers
      • 2 electric guitarists
      • 2 bass players
